Last night Doobie and I went for Benny’s Burritos — mm, margaritas — and to the UCB theatre to see the Dave Hill Explosion. I had read about it on Brooklyn Vegan, it sounded interesting, and it was only $5. But we really didn’t know what it was going to be or what to expect. After the show, we still didn’t really know what it was.
Appearing in the show were Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, etc.), Moby, and Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, etc.). There was some comedy(?), pet tricks, bad jokes, videos, a smoke machine, music (Walter Schreifels performed a Gorilla Biscuits song acoustically), some berating of one another and I guess, like, interviewing, kind of? It was weird. But for $5, it was, um, an experience.
We watched some of the Red Sox-Rays game at Jake’s afterward. In the elevator on my way to work, a guy I work with said, “I was so drunk watching the Red Sox lose last night.” A girl next to us said, “They won.” I died laughing.
Update: Pictures at Brooklyn Vegan.
