Damn you, Marion Barber. While watching the Cowboys-Eagles game last night, every time you touched the ball I yelled, “Squash him!” You see, you were on my opponent’s team for Week 2. When I went to bed last night at half time, you were underperforming and my fantasy team was set to win. But you, Barber, went off in the second half and I lost this week. Also, it didn’t help that I had your Dallas team’s defense and they stunk. I’m now 0-2-0, thanks to you.

I should have known that there would be bad news in the morning from the nightmare I had in which I was running for higher ground in Rome during a major flood.

Mucho dinero for Ocho Cinco to switch jerseys. B — It looks like Reebok can’t believe he changed his name to Ocho Cinco either. All I know is that he should make a few catches this Sunday.

NFL kicked off in full force on Sunday. Doobie and I ate some chips and dip and watched a few games. I had the laptop open tuned to my fantasy league’s stat tracker so I could check in on how my fantasy players were doing.

Stephen Jackson got tackled as soon as he touched the ball. Ocho Cinco did next to nothing. Calvin Johnson did better than expected. Kellen Winslow did his job.  Ryan Grant and Derek Anderson were ok but should have been better. My kicker kicked it well, but my defense should have smashed more helmets. I didn’t do too horribly, but I’m in a head-to-head league and the guy I was up against absolutely killed it with McNabb and Michael Turner. Murdered me.

I hope to do better this week. I have Reggie Bush on my bench and he was great on Sunday, but a friend at work told me don’t start him, he can’t be trusted. Ha. If I start him, he’ll go quiet, and if I don’t he will continue to perform really well — that’s how it works. I think he’ll sit this week, because as it is, my starters are favored to win the matchup this week. I want to win!

My god man, the features look so sophisticated. It will take me a while to figure out what I’m doing. Play bluffs, set audibles, smart routes, jukes, oh boy.

I want to watch football this year. But I want to know what’s going on; what the plays are, who the players are, and how to appreciate the level of difficulty involved. So I pre-ordered Madden ‘09, out on Aug. 12. It looks badass to play and contains what’s essentially an interactive football textbook.

The “backtrack” feature looks amazing. After a play, you can rewind, see what you did wrong, what you should have done on the play and the breakdown of the offensive and defensive setups.

The IQ test will give you lessons as well as automatically taylor the difficulty of the game to your football IQ.

This game looks so sophisticated and fun.
